Remembering 9/11 with a Random Act of Kindness

Take care of the bill for the person behind you buying coffee. Bring cold bottled water to the construction workers outside of your office. Bring chocolate chip cookies and a new book to an elderly neighbor.

To honor the nearly 3,000 Americans who lost their lives in the terrorist attack on our country on September 11th, 2001, perform a random act of kindness on this day.

Last year, on the 10th anniversary of the greatest tragedy in our lifetimes, local Arkansas Fire Chief Keith Sabatino created a movement, Pay It Forward. This event was to honor all of the innocent lives lost and the heroes who died in the line of duty - especially the 343 firefighters.

"Firefighters go into burning buildings and help people they don't know and they don't look for anything in return," Sabatino said. "Pay It Forward is based on that concept--do a random act of kindness for one person and ask nothing in return."

Today, please look for an opportunity to help someone you don't know and from whom you expect nothing in return; if the person wants to thank you or pay you back, ask them instead to “pay it forward” by doing something nice for someone else.

Virtual Assist USA pays tribute to the men and women whose lives were lost; their families and those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Please join us in this by participating in the Pay It Forward Event.
